I decided to visit my site at night to observe it and the area. It’s much different at night compared to the day. The car park it is situated in was empty. I went at 8:30pm on a Tuesday night. It was fucking freezing (breathing steam and numb fingers) It was dark but artificially lit with four street lamps. In the area there was a pedestrian crossing with flashing lights, a national bank eftpos machine, access into Massey University notably the on campus library, 14 empty staff car parks, a well looked after garden along the footpath in a predominantly residential area.

Over a period of 15 minutes 206 cars, 34 pedestrians (seven of which were drunk, one of which vomited), 3 cyclists, one skater, one bus and two scooters passed by my site.

I checked whether I could use the space for choosing what to wear, and if the little cubby holes formed by the concrete would be any good for storing clothes. See movie bellow.

I was also curious what other functions the concrete wall had. Like functioning as a ladder up onto the street above. See movie bellow:

It is interesting to note that the sounds in the movies filmed at night and the sounds of the movie filmed during the day (in the previous post) are largely the same.

Analyze, observe, and interrogate an every day act of domestic dwelling - choosing what to wear

I began by looking at my wardrobe and how I store my clothes

observation: Weather, availability and style etc are not the only factors influencing what you choose to wear. Often the way in which your clothes are presented to you has a huge impact what you choose to wear. If the clothes were organised by colour, style, or stacked end to end you think differently about what to take. you could have your clothes in draws, hung in a wardrobe, thrown in a chest, in a suitcase, on the washing line, in a laundry hamper etc... I tried a few of these to see how it affects my choosing process. it actually helped my understand my thought process a little better and work out what i go through daily.

I then started looking at the gestural form of choosing what to wear

Temporal observation: this will be an ongoing observation into how long on average I take to choose what to wear each day. I will update this once i've collected some data.

Performative aspects and their spatial implications: I have drawn a 3D sketch-up model of my room showing the space in which all my clothes are kept and therefore where I choose what to wear.
